The stars are the massive and biggest balls of fire held together by the tremendous force of gravity. These bodies are so incredible and humengus that sometime it become impossible to measure their parameters. Some of them are mysterious too. Besides all of these our nearest neighbouring star is our Sun. It has a diameter of about 1,392,684 km. However, comparing it to other stars it looks dwarf, "like the 7 dwarfs of snow white movie". Here are the lists of 10 beasts that would concour and devour everything in our solar system including our sun if place in the centre of the solar system.
10.Sirius:
Meet the pearl of the night sky. The first brightest star in the night sky, Sirius. It is about 200-300 million old star. It can be seen from almost anywhere on the Earth. The distance from the earth to this star is about 8.3 light years. It is twice massive than our sun and have a luminosity of about 25 times more than that of our sun. This star has a radius of 1.2 million km, which is 71% more than the radius of our sun. It's surface tempreature is about 9,940K.
9.Pollux:
Meet pollux, an orange supergiant star which is situated about 34 light years away from the earth. It is nine times larger than the sun and about twice massive than the sun. It has a Radius Of 5,564,000 Km. It is the brightest star in the constellation of Gemini. It's surface tempreature is about 4,865K.
8.Arcturus:
Arcturus is a red supergiant and most brightest star in the constellation of Botes(the heardsman). It is the 4th brightest stars in the night sky, after the Sirius, Canopus and Alpha Centauri. It is about 36.8 light year away from the earth. It is about 25 times bigger than the sun and has a radius of about 17,870,000 km. Arcturus is around 7.1 billion years old and started fusing helium into oxygen and carbon. It's surface tempreature is about 4,290K. The most intresting thing about this star is that, it will expand furthur when it's helium supply gets exhausted and blast off its outer shell and became a white dwarf inside it's planetary nebula around 4-5 billion light years after.
7.Aldebaran:
Do you like oranges? Then you might also like the colour of this star. Alderbaran is a orange supergiant star in the constellation of Taurus. It is 65 light years away from the earth. It is about 44.2 times bigger than our sun and has the radius of 30,740,000 km. It's surface tempreature is about 3,910K. Alderbaran shines with 425 time than the luminosity of the sun.
6.Rigel:
In orion constellation a star shines more brightly than the other stars. The name of this star is Rigel. It is also the seventh brightest star in the night sky. It is about 12,000 times more luminous than the sun and mostly visible in winter evenings in the northern hemisphere and in summer in the southern hemisphere. It's distance from the earth is about 860 light years and it is around 78 times larger than the sun. It has a radius of about 54,250,000 km. It's surface tempreature is about 11,000K.
5.Antares:
Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpios. It's radius is about 850 times than that of our sun and upto 12 times massive than the sun. If you place it in the centre of our solar system the it would reach beyond the orbit of Mars and demise everything present there from Mercury to Mars including our own beloved Sun. It's distance from the earth is about 550 light years. Is is about 57,500 times brighter than the sun. Scientists have already known that this star has existed more than 12 million years and have come near the end of its life span. It is expected that this star could explode as a supernovae in next million years. It's surface tempreature is about 18,500K.
4.Betelgeuse:
It is a red supergiant star in the constellation of orion. It is the 2nd brightest star in the constellation of orion and 9th brightest star in the night sky. It is 640 light years away from the earth and has 20 times more mass than that of our sun. Betelgeuse has the radius of about 820,700,000 km. It's surface tempreature is about 3,600K. Betelgeuse has transformed into its red supergiant stage which indicates that it would explode into supernovae in near future.
3.Mu Cephei:
Mu Cephei is also a red supergiant star like betelgeuse in the constellation of Cepheus. It is one of the largest and most luminous star in the Milkyway ever known. It is about 6000 light years away from the earth. Mu Cephei is around 20 times more massive than that of our sun and has a radius of about 1,420 times(988,036,000 km) more than the sun. It's surface tempreature is about 3,690K. Scientists have determined that the Mu Cephei is nearing it's death. It has began to fuse helium into carbon. This helium - carbon cycle shows that this star could explode into a supernovae in near future which will be 38,000 times more massive than the sun.
2.Vv Cephei:
Located in the constellation of Cepheus, this star is about 4,900 light years from the earth. Vv Cephei is also known as HD208816. It's surface tempreature is about 3,600K. This red hypergiant star is estimated to have a radius between 1,050-1,100 times than the radius of our sun.
1.Vy Canis Majoris:
Meet the beast of the stars in the universe Vy Canis Majoris. This star is so huge that no words are fulfill to describe it clearly. You can estimate it's huge size from this fact that, if you want to complete one revolution of this star with the speed of light, then it would take around 1,300 years to complete it's one revolution. It is the largest known star by radius and also the most luminous star of its type. It's radius is about 1,540 times larger than the sun and have 25 times more mass than the sun. With this much of huge size, it would reach to the orbit of Saturn if placed in the centre of our solar system. This star is about 4,900 light years away from the earth. Beside these it is a tiny dot among the billions of stars forming our galaxy.
